The above databases have been extracted from a microfilm of selected files from Fund 6, Inventory 1 at the Odessa Archives in Odessa, Ukraine. The materials microfilmed are records originally compiled by the Board of Guardians Committee during the period 1800 to 1820. This material was microfilmed in August, 2000 at the request of the California Mennonite Historical Society. This material gives us significant new information about the early residents of the Chortitza Colony and about the formation and early history of the Molotschna Colony that had previously been unavailable.

I have compiled an initial inventory of the materials on the microfilm which is available for review at http://www.rootsweb.com/~abmhsa/odessa_archives/index.html This site also presents the above data in an alternative format.

Copies of this microfilm are available for review at the following archives and historical societies:

Alf Redekopp and Jake Wiens at the Mennonite Heritage Center, John Thiesen at the Mennonite Library and Archives, Rick Rye from AHSGR in Lincoln, Nebraska, Hans Winofsky of Portland, Oregon, and Elli Wise of Frankfurt, Kentucky have assisted in translating selected items I found difficult to translate.
